 LUSINACHT

Luis Nacht is a multifaceted saxophonist from the Buenos Aires jazz scene, where he has formed part of many of the front-line jazz groups.

His eclectic musical formation and the years spent living and studying abroad have contributed to consolidate a rich and imaginative improvisational style, in which – armed with his deep and lyrical sound – Nacht draws subtle images where, though not always evident, Buenos Aires is present.

As of a couple of years ago, all this musical baggage began to take shape in a personal and unique project called NachtMusik, in which the saxophonist merges with a dynamic rhythmic section that draws together three of the most talented local jazz instrumentalists: Ernesto Jodos, Guillermo Delgado and Sergio Verdinelli.

The chemistry generated by these four artists when playing original compositions or standards is inexhaustible.

BAU Records, an independent label born under the premise of defending and promoting creative music and the work of artists committed to the search for a personal voice, has just released this remarkable saxophonist’s first recording.

During 2001 he was chosen by specialized critics as the year’s ‘revelation’ in the Argentine jazz musician category.

Luis Nacht was born on the 17th of January 1959 in Buenos Aires, and as a child studied the flute and guitar, but it wasn’t until he was 15 years old that he began his formal training as a flautist with R. Islas in Mexico City.

It was here that he began to work as a professional flautist and singer of Latin and Latin-American music, touring throughout Central America and Europe.

Later on he incorporated the language of jazz with his saxophone studies.

He studied music and the saxophone with George Coleman, Richard Beirach (New York), E. Beilin, C. Lastra, Chachi Ferreira.

He works regularly in Argentina, where he has recorded and played with musicians of jazz and other styles, such as: Afro Jazz, En El Aire, E. Fazzio (Italy), Pepi Taviera, Pablo Bobrowicky, M. Iannaconne, H. Merlo, Carlo Actis Dato (Italy), J. Crawford (U.K.), E. Beilin, Cuatro Vientos, D’Coté Saxophone Quartet.

As of 1999 he has lead his own quartet, with which he has recorded his first album NachtMusik, for BAU Records, playing regularly in the Argentine cultural and club circuit.

During 2001 he displayed an intense musical activity following the release of his album, resulting in his being chosen by the press as the Argentine jazz revelation of the year.

In conjunction with his artistic undertakings, he gives private lessons of both flute and saxophone, and is the head of the saxophone course  at the SADEM School of Music.
